Sikidang Crater is one of many craters in Dieng Plateau Area. The location of this crater is in Dieng Kulon, Banjarnegara. Besides this crater, Dieng Plateau Area also has Sileri Crater, Candradimuka Crater, Sinila Crater, and so on.
In Dieng Plateau Area, although its afternoon, but the temperature is always cold, because this plateau is in about 2.500 m above the sea level, so every second is in the cold. The crater surrounded by potato field that belong to villagers near the crater. This crater is in Telaga Warna (Color Lake) area which is an icon of tourism in Dieng Plateau Area. Beside crater, in Telaga Warna area also have a complex temple named Arjuna Temple. Arjuna Temple have a several temple, such as Bima Temple which is the location is the nearest from Sikidang crater. This temple kept in a good condition, very clean and beautiful.
When we get lucky, we can enter this crater freely without any charge, because the ticket booth is seldom guarded. From the ticket booth to location of crater is quite faraway, about 2 km, but the road is in good condition, so may be it’s not a big problem to take a walk through it. We can also see the long pipes that belong to PT Geo Dipa Energy Dieng, which is a power plant that uses geothermal or native heat.
This tourist area complete by a large parking lot and also souvenir booth. We can buy a special food such as carica and mushroom, and we can buy some souvenir like scarf and gloves. When we get close to crater we can smell sulfide which is a pungent smell, not really good smell. The centre crater just guarded by a fence of bamboo, you need to be careful in this place. Within the crater, there’s a water crater which boiled very furious.
